Questions
Will the memorial have inscribed the names of New Berlin Veterans killed in the line of duty?
The memorial will not have inscribed any names of veterans. After much discussion with local Veteran Organizations and contact with other communities who have setup memorial sites, the general consensus is not to have names inscribed on the memorial. First it is to be noted that this is a memorial to all those who have served their country in war and peace. Even in peace time there is a price to be paid in terms of time and commitment and a readiness to defend our liberty. Second, our memorial does extend to those who have paid the ultimate price of their sacrifice and we believe the inscription and the flag pay homage to them in a lasting way. Third, too often service records are not complete and it often occurs that a name is left off and a later attempt to add names is expensive and not necessarily complete. Our design incorporates the insignias of the major branches of military service and we believe that completes the message of awareness and thankfulness for all who have served.
Are major contributors listed at the site?
There is a separate granite stone near the entrance to the memorial. On the stone is unscripted the names of donors who have contributed starting at the silver category ($1,000) thru and up to the Benefactor level.
